About Us
Maine Media Women is a community of communications
professionals who meet regularly to exchange ideas and information,
and to offer mutual support and professional recognition.
Our mission is to promote the advancement of
women in the communications professions. We accomplish this
through educational meetings, special workshops and conferences,
scholarships for women studying in communications fields,
and awards presented to women who have achieved career distinction
in communications.
Our members represent the full spectrum of communications
careers, including writers, graphic designers, artists, editors,
publishers, photographers, videographers, advertising and
marketing professionals, public relations practitioners, communications
educators, and specialists in broadcast, print and electronic
media.
The organization, founded in 1951, was originally
called Maine Press Radio and Television Women. In 1982, it
was renamed Maine Media Women to reflect a broadened scope
of members, activities, and contacts.
