SCHOLARSHIP: $1000 will be awarded to a high school senior who is planning to attend college and pursue a career in communication media. This scholarship is awarded on merit.
ELIGIBILITY: She must be a high school senior and a Maine resident.
APPLICATION: Seniors who wish to apply for the grant will need to send an original and two copies of the following:
- A letter of application in either business or friendly form, with narrative containing the following: name, age, address; parents' or guardians' names; school presently attending; college or university she will attend; reasons she wishes to be considered for the Maine Media Women Scholarship; reasons she wishes to go into a communications field and what field of communications she has chosen; high school activities and honors; any work experience or other information that will help the committee to know more about you and to evaluate your application.
- Two letters of recommendation from the following: teachers, counselors, community members for whom she has worked either for salary or as a volunteer, religious leaders, or any other responsible adults who are not relatives.
- A record of high school ranks/grades.

DEADLINE: Application must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2010. Any applications postmarked later than March 31, 2010 will not be considered.
AWARD: The winner of the Maine Media Women Scholarship will be announced at the Annual Meeting held May 1, 2010. (The winner will be notified in advance as the membership would be grateful if the winner could join us for lunch to accept the award.) The cash award will be made at the end of the winner's freshman year upon receipt by the committee of proof of completion of the first year, the winner's grades, and proof of registration for the sophomore year. It will be the responsibility of the winner to provide the above information in a timely manner. The scholarship will be made either to the winner directly, or to the college or university on their behalf. It is the winner's choice.
Rebecca Schooley is the 2009 Maine Media Women Scholarship recipient. This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who is planning to attend college and pursue a career in communication media. It is awarded on merit.
Rebecca is from Thomaston, Maine and graduated from Georges Valley High School. She is the daughter of Larry and Ellin Schooley. Rebecca will attend Nyack Collece in the fall of 2009 and will be majoring in communications with a minor in journalism. She is a well-rounded student who has shown unusual maturity in making life choices and a deep commitment to her community. With a solid 3.3 GPA, she has shown that she knows how to work hard while balancing her studies with theater, sports and volunteer work.
